Our Story
In the UK touring actors and crew end up staying in poor quality, unsafe and unsuitable accommodation.
Unwanted advances from landlords, mattresses in damp conservatories and sharing beds to make ends meet are all too common experiences for young and vulnerable creatives on the road.
The Actors House is a social start-up that aims to change this by providing safe, high quality and affordable places to stay for touring actors and crew across the UK.
Founder Matt Henry MBE’s personal early touring experiences as a young actor inspired him to launch The Actors House.
Our mission is to ensure that all touring actors and crew have access to high quality, safe places to stay when touring the UK.
Our Houses
High quality affordable places to stay located within 15 minutes of receiving theatres in UK cities. Featuring boutique-style ensuite rooms, shared kitchens and rentable studio space. Staying in one of our houses will always be affordable within the Equity Touring Allowance.
We opened our first location in the UK in 2025 and have ambitious plans for growth over the next three years. We’re focussed on delivering our mission in two ways:
Accredited Locations
Building on Equity’s Dignity in Digs campaign, we‘re launching a quality standard for independently owned properties for touring actors and crew. This will increase the supply of high quality, safe places to stay that touring actors and creatives can book with confidence through our platform.
Our first House is a refurbished seven bedroom property located in Bradford that opened in December 2025. It serves touring actors and crew for theatres and venues in the Bradford area. Rooms are now available to book online.
